After she takes care of business in Sochi, Paralympic snowboarding champion Amy Purdy is taking on a new challenge–partnering with DWTS chamion Derek Hough to compete on Dancing with the Stars! New cast was announced today on Good Morning America. Congrats, Amy! We will be cheering you on and making sure your “dancing legs” are in competition condition! Meet Max Gauthier and his identical twin brother, Jake. Both men were serving our country in Afghanistan when Max was injured. South Orlando Rowing recently received a donation for adaptive rowing which allowed them to purchase 2 fixed seats along with an adaptive rowing shell, oars, and stabilizing pontoons. They are having an Open House event on Saturday, September 8th from 8:00am -Noon. No experience necessary! They will teach you to row!
The POA socket of the week! This is a transtibial NPS vacuum system with a carbon fiber over cover with the phrase “I do my own stunts” laminated on it. 🙂 Our patients have the best sense of humor!
After much anticipation, POA’s rock climbing wall is here! Be sure to check it out during your next visit! Rock climbing is a whole body workout that improves strength, endurance, and stamina. Ronnie Dickson – CP, AK amputee and experienced rock climber -is looking forward to introducing our patients to climbing!
POA patient Jean Law traveled to Augusta, GA last weekend to participate in a 5K fundraiser. The event was organized by supporters of Aimee Copeland, a young woman who was nearly killed by a flesh eating bacteria. Jean lost both her legs to a similar bacteria a few years ago.
