JR, a bi-lateral above knee amputee who traveled to Orlando from Guam, is a true example of what can be accomplished with a lot of hard work and determination. The following video shows JR in various stages of gait, strength, and exercise training. Congresswoman Tammy Duckworth, an Iraq war veteran and bi-lateral amputee, was sworn into the U.S. House of Representatives by our own Judge “Jack” Farley, a Vietnam veteran and above-knee amputee. The ceremony was held at the Disabled American Veterans office in Washington on January 3,2013. Duckworth represents Illinois’ 8th congressional district.
Franklin Mejias, the Venezuelan boy who lost all four of his limbs to a deadly illness last year, was back at POA last month for some adjustments and rehab. POA patient Jean Law traveled to Augusta, GA last weekend to participate in a 5K fundraiser. The event was organized by supporters of Aimee Copeland, a young woman who was nearly killed by a flesh eating bacteria. Jean lost both her legs to a similar bacteria a few years ago.
