JR, a bi-lateral above knee amputee who traveled to Orlando from Guam, is a true example of what can be accomplished with a lot of hard work and determination. We have successfully fit several BK patients at POA with this new technology, including Jean Law, a bi-lateral amputee. The main features of the foot are the lightweight integrated vacuum pump and shock absorbing/rotation functionality. Says, Jean, “It feels very light, comfortable and natural; not stiff at the ankle like other prosthetic feet….and I don’t have to use a manual pump!” These are very exciting times in the prosthetic industry;
POA recently fit Paralympic and WSF Para-Snowboard World Cup Champion Evan Strong with a custom NPS vacuum socket. Before he left, we gave the prosthesis one final check. Stan and Mike were enlisted to lift him upside-down while clipped into his boots and snowboard – our version of an “inverted aerial.” A perfect example of the power of elevated vacuum!
