10-year-old Cameron, an above knee amputee, enjoyed a climb on POA’s rock climbing/training wall during a recent visit to our office. We love introducing our patients to new things and helping to instill a “no limits” attitude in them!
Our own Ronnie Dickson made the cover of the Aug/Sept issue of “Amp It Up” magazine! Check out his article, “Amputation: an opportunity for a better life.” —-> Amp It Up article by Ronnie Dickson
Zoe was in the news again! This time, “The Ledger,” a Polk County Florida newspaper, featured her in an article about her return to Volleyball. Zoe lost her leg in 2011 after a jet-ski accident. Since then she has overcome many obstacles, including several surgeries and infections. Now Zoe is focusing on the future, and doing all the things a normal 16-year-old girl does – like driving on car! 🙂
Great article on 39-year-old April Holmes, who is set to compete in the 2012 Paralympics, and fully intends to win both the 100 and 200-meter sprints. This will be April’s third Paralympics. She competed in the 2004 Athens games, and won a bronze medal in the long jump. In the 2008 Beijing games, she was in first place when she stumbled and fell. Although bleeding and devastated, April got back
The POA socket of the week! This is a transtibial NPS vacuum system with a carbon fiber over cover with the phrase “I do my own stunts” laminated on it. 🙂 Our patients have the best sense of humor!
Ronnie Dickson is a member of the U.S. National Climbing Team which will be competing at the Para-climbing World Championships in France next month (9/12-16/12)! He and another climber are the first para-athletes to compete in this event as part of Team USA!
Two of our patients having a chat in our office last week – one an 86 year old man and long-time amputee; the other a 19 year old girl who just recently lost her leg. The difference in their ages was lost as they shared the experiences of their limb loss.
Congratulations going out to ** Zoe Gibbs ** for making her high school volleyball team! With love from your cheerleaders at POA! 🙂
POA’s Josh Olson, a hip disarticulate amputee, is representing Team USA in shooting at the Paralympic Games. Josh is the first ever active duty service member to be nominated to the Team. POA’s NPS hip disarticulate prosthetic system, also known as “the Olson socket,” was developed for Josh by Stan Patterson in response to a request from Walter Reed Army Medical Hospital. The following video link shows Josh preparing for
